Opportunities for Giving   |   Commemorative   |   Go to the Donation Form

There are a variety of ways you can invest in the Newton Memorial Hospital Foundation and contribute to the health of our growing community. Please take a moment and consider how to best reflect your charitable intentions while achieving your personal financial goals

Direct Gifts
Contributions of cash, checks or credit card are tax deductible. Remember, however, for the purposes of income taxes, your cash gift is deductible only in the year in which it is donated. Check with your tax advisor to confirm the extent to which your donation is deductible.

Memmorials
Share feelings of joy and sorrow with others, while at the same time benefiting the Hospital and its patients. A gift may be made as an expression of sympathy, in remembrance of a loved one, as a tribute to someone special, or to mark a special occasion -- graduation, birth, birthday, anniversary or speedy recovery.

Bequests
A bequest in your will is an ideal way to reduce taxes and make a significant gift to benefit the Newton Memorial Hospital Foundation. Ask your attorney to include a clause in your will or add a codicil to an existing will. A bequest may be made for a specific amount, a percent of your estate, and/or specific property.

Gifts of Life Insurance
Do you have a paid-up life insurance policy you no longer need? If so, consider naming Newton Memorial Hospital Foundation as the beneficiary of that policy. You can also make Newton Memorial Hospital Foundation the owner of the policy, or turn it in for the approximate cash value of the policy. Ask your insurance agent for advice and for the necessary forms.

Gifts of Appreciated Assets
Gifts of appreciated assets, such as stocks, bonds and real estate, offer additional tax benefits. By making a contribution of appreciated assets instead of selling them, you can claim a tax deduction for the current fair market value of the gift and avoid capital gains tax. Talk with your tax advisor first.

Planned Giving and Estate Planning
Today, well-planned philanthropy can play as important role to the financial well being of the donor as it does to the recipient. When professional knowledge is applied to evaluating the various options for planned giving, the value of a gift can be maximized for the donor and organization. When contemplating major giving, it is imperative that the donor understands tax advantages of these options that can include Charitable Remainder Trusts, a Charitable Gift Annuity and Pooled Income.

The Newton Memorial Hospital Foundation Committee on Planned Giving makes financial advice and expertise available to any potential donor wishing to learn more about how to develop a sound plan for philanthropy.
